This piercing device was especially developed for purge and trap (PAT) analysis of gases, liquids or solids. It is ideal for all gas chromatographic sampling. The modification was accomplished by (1) placing a gas chromatographic septum (heavy duty aluminum foil) between the sample nut and the ferrule, (2) attaching a
1/16" purge line to the 1/16" sampler purge line with a low dead-volume union, and (3) connecting the sampling line to the sample drain needle.

The resultant, 11,000-GC offers these benefits:

PAT sampling of cans, mason jars, beer bottles, vials from 1-250 ml and various other bottles without additional adaptors.

Complete control of the sampler from the PAT unit.

Quick disconnect of the PAT unit for carbonyl analysis (achieved by bubbling the carbonyl into a gas washing bottle containing 0.25% 2.4 dinitrophenylhydrazine in 2/n HCl to form carbonyl derivatives, which can be analyzed by HPLC).

Optional custom-made heating mantles are also available to enable temperature adjustment or maintenance of a constant with a rheostat.
